January 26, 2006 - Centered Vision - A self portrait I did for the "Off-Centered Subject" challenge on DPC. I'm proud of it, even though it still floundered in the low 5s.

Tools of Yesteryear - Just another experimental "product" shot for some upcoming Ebay activity. I'm pretty impressed with the results, for once. Hope it looks good on other monitors.

Burst - actually shot on the 18th, but I'm posting it for today anyway :) Yeah, I know those are hotspots, and I don't like 'em. I needed gentler backlights, but these were the best I had for now. This is my son's kite, held up to the ceiling fan.

Pondering Hope

Spent over 12 hours on the road today, driving a total of 607 miles, trying to help mentor a kid we know from church. A little bit of a disappointing day, but in all that - NO PHOTOS! Couldn't find anything worth shooting during the brief periods I was stopped. Just an excuse.

Just a plain jane sunset, shot with the 75-300. I'm really glad I bought that lens, because it has given me so much capability that I just did not have before.

Highly DPC illegal, but I wanted to work on my "product shots" technique. There's cloning, noise reduction, cropping and canvas resizing, curves, and goodness knows what all in this. The reflections are terrible. No light diffusion was employed; obviously it's critical.

An experiment in diffused flash at VERY closer range. Overall, I was pleased with the experiment, even though this isn't exactly a thrilling pic. It was technical practice and learning. Kit lens at 55mm, 1/20s, and f/29 or so.

I took pictures on BOTH the 6th and the 7th, but I couldn't come up with anything to post here, so I just didn't. Then, today, I had the wild idea to experiment with backlighting... not realizing there is a DPC challenge right now for backlighting. Talk about feeling rather dumb... Anyway, this will NOT be an entry, as there's a good deal of burning to remove background features that the overexposure didn't eliminate, and the challenge is Basic Editing.

Travis - the coolest lil boy on earth. This was just a "flashed snapshot" with my new 75-300 lens - thanks, idnic - and, with a little redeye correction, I thought it turned into a pretty good shot. Not quite as sharp as I would have liked for reasons of movement and unplanned things, but I like it.

0104 A Boy's Shoes - just a little experiment with full manual flash. Agreed, not a great shot.

Gateway - another shot that is cool in my eyes but probably makes no sense at all to anyone else.

This is one of those totally inane pics. It was an experiment for the "Explosion of Color" challenge that I don't think will work out. There's color but no explosion.

By the way, I consider any shot made before 3 AM to have been made the day before. :) Except for challenge entries, of course!
